James R. Moffett

Mr. Moffett serves as Co-Chairman of the Board of McMoRan Exploration Co. and Chairman of
Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX).
 

From 1964 to 1969, Mr. Moffett was a consulting geologist.  In 1969, he and two associates founded McMoRan Oil & Gas Co., which developed into one of America’s leading independent oil and gas companies.  In 1981, Mr. Moffett put together the merger of McMoRan Oil & Gas Co. and Freeport Minerals Company.  The merger resulted in the establishment of a new company, Freeport-McMoRan Inc., which became one of the world’s leading natural resource companies of which he served as Chairman and CEO from 1984 - 1997. 

Mr. Moffett serves on numerous boards and has received many awards, including the 1990 Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans Award.  In May 2000, he received that Association’s 2000 Norman Vincent Peale Award for his exceptional humanitarian contributions to society.  He is also a member of the American Mining Hall of Fame, Mining Foundation of the Southwest.  Mr. Moffett received a Bachelor of Science degree with special honors in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin while on a full football scholarship and a Master of Science degree in Geology from Tulane University.  He has also received an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Louisiana State University and a Doctor of Financial Economics, Honoris Causa, degree from the University of New Orleans.  He has served on the board since 1994.

Richard C. Adkerson

Richard C. Adkerson serves as Co-Chairman of the Board of McMoRan Exploration Co. He is also President and Chief Executive Officer and a director of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.

He graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with highest honors and an MBA degree. He later completed the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School. Prior to joining Freeport-McMoRan in 1989, he was a Partner and Managing Director of Arthur Andersen & Co. where he headed the firm’s Worldwide Oil and Gas Industry Practice. From 1976 to 1978, he was a Professional Accounting Fellow with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. and a Presidential Exchange Executive.

Mr. Adkerson currently serves as Chairman of the International Council on Mining and Metals and on the Executive Board of the International Copper Association. He is President of the Mississippi State University Foundation Board of Directors, chaired its “State of the Future” capital campaign, serves on the University’s Advisory Board for the College of Business and serves on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association and the Bulldog Club. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Phoenix Leadership and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, and is a member of the Business Council of New Orleans and the River Region. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Kissinger Institute on China and the United States, the Dean’s Council of 100 for the Arizona State University W. P. Carey School of Business, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Board of Visitors, the Development Board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes of New Orleans, the Louisiana State University Ourso College of Business Executive Board of Advisors, the Xavier University President’s Council and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary Foundation Board. He was named the Outstanding Accounting Alumnus of Mississippi State University in 1989 and the Outstanding Alumnus of Mississippi State University’s College of Business and Industry in 1991. In 2009, for the second straight year, Institutional Investor magazine ranked Mr. Adkerson first in their annual ranking of “America's Best CEOs” in the Basic Materials - Metals & Mining category.
 
Glenn A. Kleinert

 
Mr. Kleinert is the President and Chief Executive Officer of McMoRan Exploration Co.  He served as Executive Vice President of McMoRan Exploration Co. from May 2001 until February 2004. He has served as President and Chief Operating Officer of McMoRan Oil & Gas since May 2001, Senior Vice President of McMoRan Oil & Gas from 1994 until May 2001, and Vice President of Freeport-McMoRan Energy, LLC since February 2001.

Robert A. Day Mr. Day is founder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Trust Company of the West, an investment management company. He is also the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of W. M. Keck Foundation, a national philanthropic organization. Mr. Day also serves as a director of Société Générale and Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. Mr. Day received his Bachelor of Science degree from Claremont McKenna College. He has served on the board since 1994.
Gerald J. Ford

 

Mr. Ford is the Chairman of the Board of Diamond-A Ford Corp. Mr. Ford is the former Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and a principal shareholder of Golden State Bancorp, Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary, California Federal Bank, a Federal Savings Bank, that merged with Citigroup Inc. in 2002. Mr. Ford also serves as a director of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. and Scientific Games Corp. (SGMS) and Chairman of the Board of First Acceptance Corporation and Hilltop Holdings, Inc. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Southern Methodist University (SMU) from 2002 to 2006 and currently serves as a Trustee and on the Trusteeship Committee of the University. He is on the Executive Board of SMU School of Law, is a Trustee of Southwestern Medical Foundation and Children’s Medical Foundation, is a member of the Board of Overseers of Weill Medical College and Graduate School of Medical Sciences of Cornell University. Mr. Ford received his bachelor’s degree in economics from SMU in 1966 and his Juris Doctor degree from SMU’s School of Law in 1969. Mr. Ford has been an MMR Board member since 1998.
H. Devon Graham Jr.

 

Mr. Graham is President of R.E. Smith Interests, an asset management company.  He was the United States Regional Managing Partner – Southwest of Arthur Andersen LLP from 1985 until 1997. Mr. Graham is a member of the Senior Executive Advisory Board of the College of Business and Industry at  Mississippi State University. He also serves on the board of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. Mr. Graham graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Accounting. He has served on the board since 1999.
Suzanne T. Mestayer Ms. Mestayer is the managing member of Advisean Partners, L.L.C. She is the former President of the New Orleans market of Regions Bank, part of Regions Financial Corporation, one of the largest full-service providers of consumer and commercial banking, trust, securities brokerage, mortgage, and insurance products and services.  Ms. Mestayer was a partner in Arthur Andersen where she practiced as a CPA from 1973 to 1991. She practiced with PricewaterhouseCoopers from 1991 to 1993.  She began working in the banking industry in 1993.  Ms. Mestayer received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Louisiana State University in 1973.  She has served on the board since 2007.

B.M. Rankin Jr.

 

Mr. Rankin has served as Vice Chairman of the Board of McMoRan Exploration Co. and Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. since January 2001. Presently, Mr. Rankin is a private investor and provides consulting services to both companies through FM Services Company.  He was a co-founder of McMoRan Oil & Gas Co. in 1969 with J.R. Moffett and W.K. McWilliams. He has served on the board since 1994.

Morrison C. Bethea
Dr. Bethea is currently a Staff Physician at Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Clinic and also a Clinical Professor of Surgery at Tulane University Medical Center. He is a Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgeon and served as Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans from 1997 to 2005. He earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, completed his residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and postgraduate training in thoracic and cardiac surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York.  Dr. Bethea is the co-author of The New York Times best selling book SUGAR BUSTERS! and the author of many publications in the field of cardiovascular disease.

Gabrielle K. McDonald
A former U.S. District Judge, noted civil rights attorney and professor of jurisprudence, Judge McDonald served for six years as a Judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague, The Netherlands and was President of the Tribunal from 1997 until 1999.  Judge McDonald received her law degree from Howard University School of Law, completing the program as the top student in her class.  She is presently a judge in the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal, The Hague, The Netherlands and Special Counsel on Human Rights to Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc., along with serving as a Director of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.

J. Taylor Wharton

 

Dr. Wharton was Special Assistant to the President for Patient Affairs and Professor, Gynecologic Oncology, at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center until August 31, 2007. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas, Galveston. He is also a director of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.
